Thomas C. Farnan Obituary

Thomas Columbus “TC” Farnan, III, 72, long-time Clifton Park resident, passed away after a long illness on February 6 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy on November 24, 1951 to Thomas and Rosemary Shortell Farnan, TC graduated from Our Lady of Victory School and LaSalle Institute, Class of 1970. He attended HVCC, Albany Business College and Northwood Institute in Michigan before entering his life-long career in the automobile business, first at Whitbeck Motors in Troy, and eventually serving in management positions at several major Chevrolet dealerships, including DeNooyer Chevrolet, Salisbury Chevrolet, and DePaula Chevrolet. Countless area residents relied on TC Farnan's expertise when they needed a new or used car. He was often referred to as a legend within the industry, a respected mentor to many and a trusted friend to all with whom he worked.

As a youth, TC loved sports and was an avid hockey player, baseball player, and golfer, sinking a hole-in-one at the age of 13 at the Country Club of Troy. His love of athletics continued as he followed his children's sports activities, traveling throughout the Northeast to be at every one of his sons' many hockey games, no matter how far the distance or how wintry the weather.

Family was everything to TC. Having lost his own parents at a young age, he went above and beyond to be there for his own children and grandchildren, visiting them several times a week and invariably bringing treats from Bella Napoli and local shops. He never forgot a birthday and was known for sending birthday cards to friends and loved ones from throughout his life.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Christine Hausmann Farnan of Clifton Park; his children, Thomas (Rory) Farnan, Amy (Christopher) Babcock, Ryan (Molly) Farnan, and Patrick (Morgan) Farnan, all of Brunswick, grandchildren Jack, Grace, and William Farnan; Jayne and Anna Babcock; and Nellie Farnan, sisters Christine (late Thomas) Marcil, Denise (late Melanie Thompson) Farnan, and Rosemary (John) Balog; his aunt Nancy Whiteman Shortell of Queensbury; and his former spouse Nancy Emmet Farnan (Frank LaPosta) of Troy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loving friends, especially those at the Halfmoon Diner which he visited daily.

All are invited to visit with TC’s family on Friday evening, February 9 from 4 to 7 PM at Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, Latham. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy, on Saturday morning, February 10, with family remembrances being held before the service, at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow the service in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember TC in a special way may consider a donation to their favorite charity in his memory.
