Vernon Twp., NJ: John Michael Stevens, 82 years old, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Born to Vincent and Eleanor Stevens in Brooklyn, NY, he had lived in Clifton, NJ before moving to Vernon Twp., NJ 19 years ago.

John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and then worked as a truck driver and laborer for the NJDOT, retiring from the Sussex Branch years ago. John served as volunteer and was a life member of the Lodi Ambulance Squad and enjoyed tinkering at home, maintaining and repairing his home and yard and antiquing.

John is predeceased by his son, John F. Stevens(2011) and is the beloved husband, of Elaine Stevens(nee Ashton) of Vernon Twp., NJ. Devoted father of Michael Stevens and his wife, Debra of Lyndhurst, NJ and Daniel Stevens of East Rutherford, NJ. Step father of Danny Christie and his wife, Kathy of Paterson, NJ and Dave Christie and his wife, Jennifer of Hawley, PA. Loving grandfather of Jay, Nicholas, Craig, Alexander, Sara and Dana.

Private cremation under the direction of Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. A Celebration of John’s Life will be Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Vernon United Methodist Church, 303 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860 would be appreciated.
