Richard Knight

Richard E. Knight Sr., 74, of Ottumwa, passed away February 19, 2018 at his home. He was born December 27, 1943 in Ottumwa to Joseph and Clara Brown Knight. Richard married Cheryl Morgan on March 12, 1962 and they had five children. They later divorced. He later married Shirley Sharon West Hormann on June 22, 1989, and gained two more daughters. Richard served in the U.S. Navy for a brief period. He enjoyed many years of truck driving before taking early retirement due to his health. Richard enjoyed going to car shows, watching country music on TV, cheering on the Cubs as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes football team, but most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family. Richard is survived by and will be deeply missed by many including his wife, Sharon; children, Dee (Tim) Minella, Monna (Bill) Schachtner of Chariton, Janice Bardwell of Jefferson City, MO, Richard (Heather) Knight Jr., Sonya (Jenni) Hormann and Sue (Tracy) Adler; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alan (Barb) Knight of Orlando, FL; a sister, Beverly (Swede) Mart of Ottumwa; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Carnes; 3 brothers, Larry, Dennis and Mark Knight and a sister, Mary Widger. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crisis Center and Women’s Shelter, PO Box 446, Ottumwa, IA 52501
