VERBLAAUW, Tunis P., 82, of North Haledon passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024.
Born in Paterson, he lived in Prospect Park before moving to North Haledon in 2017. He
was a former owner of Verblaauw Hardware in Prospect Park until 1991. Before his
retirement in 2009, Tunis also worked at Kuiken Brothers. He also served as a former President
on the Board of Education for the Prospect Park Public Schools. For many years, he was a
member and served as an elder of Bethany Reformed Church, and currently a member of
Ebenezer Netherlands Reformed Church.
Tunis is survived by his loving wife Lois (Huizing) Verblaauw of 62 years. Beloved
father of Tunis and his wife Martha (Vergine), Edward and his wife Cynthia (Prol), David and his wife
Beth (De Ritter), and Mark and his wife Rosemary (Van Althuis). Cherished grandfather of Carly Bakay and her husband Dan, Cara Brock and her husband Harry, Kerri Hoogenhuis and her husband Phil, Craig Verblaauw
and his wife Jessica, Courtney Shippee and her husband Jonathan, Melissa Banta and her
husband RJ, Mark Jr. Verblaauw and his wife Erin, Sarah Verblaauw, and William Verblaauw.
Loving great-grandfather of 14 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Henrietta Verblaauw.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the
Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. A
funeral service and interment will be held privately on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Holland Christian Home.
