John Francis Kajner

It is with deep sorow that we announce the passing of our dear Brother, John Francis Kajner, on January 3lst 2024, at 80 years of age. John was born on the family farm South West of St. Brieux on July 3rd,1943, to George and Alice (Mansiere) Kajner. He was the 3rd of 6 children. John took his formal schooling at Miora Lake Country school, when, upon finishing Grade 8, he left school to help out on the farm. In 1968, John and some of his Galambos cousins did construction work at the new Lanigan potash mine, then moved to the construction site of the Rocanville potash mine from 1969 to 1970. John then worked for various farmers in the area until May of 1975, when he began his career as a fuel delivery truck driver for the St. Brieux and, later, the Melfort Co-op, - retiring from there in March of 1994. John lived on the family farm almost all of his life, eventually purchasing the home quarter from his Mother in 1978, after the passing of his Father in October of 1977. Hunting, fishing and his farm were John's greatest 1oves, but he also loved going for coffee, visiting with family and friends, and teasing his many nieces and nephews. He also loved animals, and had two very special companions - his cats, Garfield and Freddie, who spent many happy hours with him. In 2012, John's health began to deteriorate with the onset of dementia and he ended up first in hospital, then in private care homes, and finally, in the dementia wing of the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, where he resided until his recent passing. John was predeceased by his parents, George and Alice Kajner; his brothers, Roger & George Kajner; and His sister Katherine (Katie) Harris. John is survived by his sister Pat (Tom) Hindley and their children & families; his brother Karl (Shirley) Kajner and their children and families, as well as many cousins, & friends. He will also be remembered and missed by his very special friends Ed & Karen Osopenko, who did so much for him during his time in Prince Albert, & the very caring staff of the Herb Bassett Home. John will be remembered for his sense of humour, his teasing ways, and his love of a simple life. There will be a private burial ceremony at the St. Brieux Catholic cemetery at a later date
