Funeral services for Thomas A. Schweers age 80 of Wisner, NE will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE with Pastor Jared Hartmann officiating. Interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Wisner City Auditorium. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the family for future designation in Tom's name.

Tom passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at his home.

Thomas Allen Schweers was born on October 19, 1943 to Adolph and Laura (Schulte) Schweers in Wayne, NE. Tom was baptized on December 12, 1943 and later confirmed on March 30, 1958 at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. He attended Cuming County Rural School Dstrict #71 through the 6th grade, graduated from Wisner High School in 1962 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1963, he started selling Livestock Feed for Standard Chemical for over 20 years.

On March 7, 1964, he was united in marriage to Joan Moeller at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. In the mid 1980’s, Tom began buying and selling cattle for Herb Albers Feedlot and continued until his retirement.

Tom was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, served as an Usher and helped cook for various church functions. He was a former member of the Wisner Jaycees, was a current member of the Wisner Lion’s Club and was named as its Citizen of the Year. Tom announced many years for Wisner-Pilger Football games, Wisner Baseball and a variety of community activities and celebrations. Tom and Mike Kuzelka grilled burgers and brats for numerous community and school events.

Tom enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his garden, being at the cabin, playing cards, and belonged to several card groups over the years. He loved spending time with his family and rarely missed an activity his grandchildren were involved in.

Son-Corby and Amy Schweers of Wayne, NE and their family- Ashton and Zach Johnk and children-Rory, Barrett, and Cooper, and Schuyler Schweers

Brother-George and Marianne Schweers of Alamogordo, NM

Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother-Laura Schweers in 1969, father-Adolph Schweers in 1974, and siblings-Richard Schweers, and Marjorie (Jacobsen) Maloney.
