Janet L. Shields, 56, of Oil City, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born February 16, 1967 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Hilton and June Williams Whitmer.

Janet worked for many years as a CNA before taking her current role as a home health aide. She loved her cats and dogs and especially loved spending time with her granddaughter.

She was married June 30, 1983 to William C. Shields, and he survives.

Surviving are her husband William of Oil City; two daughters, Mary Shields of Oil City and Sheila Smathers and her husband Tyler of Oil City; and a granddaughter, Elliott Smathers.

Also surviving are three siblings, Ron Whitmer and his wife Pat of South Carolina, Cindy Asel and her husband Robin of Oil City, and Mary Spencer and her husband Robert of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shayla Shields; a grandson, Triton Smathers; and two brothers, Keith and William Whitmer.

There will be no visitation. Funeral services are private.
