Gwendolyn Mary Ratcliffe Obituary

Gwendolyn Mary Ratcliffe (Miller) was born March 12, 1928 near Sylvania, Sask to Alvin and Murl Miller. She was the first born followed by siblings Marilyn, Jack and Ian.

She spent her entire life in the Sylvania area except for four years living in Regina during the war years while Alvin Miller was in the RCAF. Gwen wanted to come home to Sylvania for Grade 12 to graduate with her friends Marjorie Whitson and Irene McKague. And to see her sweetheart Tuffy.

David (Tuffy) Ratcliffe and Gwen Miller were married on November 26, 1947. She immediately took on the challenge of running a household of 6 adults as Gramma Emily Ratcliffe was bedridden with pancreatic cancer.

And then the babies came in regular intervals with a gap before little Tracey came along to brighten their lives and keep them active and involved with young people. Her home was a welcoming place to anyone who stopped in. Coffee and fresh buns were at the ready.

Gwen worked at Sasko Park Lodge and the Coop coffee shop for several years. As her children married and grandchildren and then great grandchildren came along, she was devoted to her family, a cheerleader, a joyful encourager. She taught us by example to help your neighbour, be hard working, kind and humble.

Gwen loved music, children, dogs, cats, church, nature but above all her family.

She will be remembered for her graciousness, her tolerance, patience and compassion, her positive outlook on life and her love of family.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Tuffy (2007) and her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Don (Laura), Barry (Dianne), Judy (Ron), Ken (Shelley) and Tracey (Mike); her grandchildren: Carol, Nancy (Jeff), Derek, Jennifer (Justin), Ed, Stephanie, Deana (David), Stuart (Sheranne), Dan (Chelsy), Ian (Rochana), Kirsten (Connor) and Cameron; her great grandchildren: Eris, Aybree, Leah, Alex, Ryan, Copper, Ruby and Violet; as well as many extended family and friends. We will be forever grateful for the love and care she provided.

In memory of Gwen, her family asks you to do an act of kindness, speak to babies and children, pet a dog or cat, sing and eat ice cream.
