Hugh Cline Alltop, 70, of Annamoriah, WV, departed this earthly life on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Mon General Hospital, Morgantown, WV, following a short battle with colon cancer.

He was born in Philippi, WV, on August 14, 1953 to Harlen Claude and Hazel Reed Alltop.

Hugh graduated from Gilmer County High School in 1971 and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Glenville State College in 1975. He began his teaching career in Ritchie County and also worked in Gilmer, Calhoun, Doddridge, and Raleigh counties in West Virginia. He also taught at South Brunswick High School in North Carolina. As well as teaching, Hugh loved to coach. He coached basketball, baseball, and football. He later worked as an Accounts Manager at Guardian Glass (Safelite) from which he retired.

Hugh was united in marriages to Beth (Stalnaker) on August 6, 1996, who survives. Also surviving are two sons—Jeremy Alltop of Harrodsburg, KY and Jerod (Natalie) Alltop of Kenna, WV, a stepson, Josh Romage (Rachel) of Annamoriah, WV, four granddaughters—Brinley Alltop, Sophie, Lily and Nora Romage, and one grandson, Isaac Romage. Also surviving are two brothers—Roy Alltop (Rhonda) of Elizabeth, WV and Robert Alltop (Mary) of Troy, WV, and two sisters—Nedra Riggins of Pennsboro, WV, and Nelda Gill of Smithville, WV.

In addition to his parents, Hugh is preceded in death by an infant brother Hammond and a step-son, Eric Romage.

Hugh enjoyed all sports, hunting, riding his horses, and spending time with family, especially his five grandchildren. He served as President of the Alltop Reunion for over 25 years. This was an event he looked forward to each year in July.

Hugh accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 18. He was a faithful member of the Brooksville Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be conducted by Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV, at the Brooksville Baptist Church, on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Travis Alltop officiating and Pastor Matt Sanders assisting. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Interment will be in Big Bend Cemetery.
