Margery “Margy” Lou Aldrich (77) of Reno, NV passed away peacefully at home with her daughters close by on Thursday, January 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with a neuromuscular disorder. She was born in Marshalltown, IA on December 16, 1946 to Donald and Hilda (Rohwer) Steiert and attended schools in Garwin and Gladbrook, IA.

A sports enthusiast her entire life, Margy played basketball in high school and was known for her keen ability to make free throws. She went on to excel in softball, windsurfing, horse jumping, and, perhaps her favorite sport of all, golf. Margy also stood out as an excellent student. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a teaching degree and later went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. Throughout her 27 years as an elementary classroom teacher and reading specialist, she inspired thousands of children to share in her passion for books and learning. For the latter part of her career, she helped teachers as a coach for the Success for All reading program in Carson City, Nevada.

Margy’s other life-long passion was animals, particularly dogs and horses. She became a dedicated and beloved volunteer at the Nevada Humane Society, where she spent hours walking and providing comfort to any and every dog she could. Whether a child struggling to learn how to read or a stray animal wandering down the street, Margy would go out of her way to help them. She was also the always-proud mother of two loving daughters, who will forever cherish their memories of her and all the support and love she provided them throughout her life. She was taken too soon and will be deeply missed.

Margy was preceded in death by her sisters, Joanne Hill and Janice Sevey. She is survived by her daughters, Renee Aldrich and Erin Aldrich, her son-in-law, Daniel (Renee) Montero, her brother, Donald Steiert, and her sister, Sue Moscarelli.

At Margy’s request, there will be no service. She and the family suggest that donations be made to the Nevada Humane Society. The family also appreciates all the kindness the nurses and staff at Renown Hospice have shown.
