Laura Elaine Wallace Obituary

Laura Elaine (Wiebe) Wallace passed away on Monday January 22, 2024 after a battle with cancer with her family close by.

She was born to Fred & Margaret (Penner) Wiebe July 4, 1966 in Reston MB. She grew up on an acreage outside Sinclair, MB. She spent lots of time in the family store, playing sports with family and friends. She especially enjoyed skating and playing ball. She attended school in Sinclair, until moving to a private school close to home just outside Sinclair for the last 2 years of schooling.

In 1985/1986, she moved to Virden, MB, working as a waitress and babysitting. In 1986, she met Dean Wallace, later marrying him on July 2, 1988. They lived in Oakner, MB, where their first child, Justin, was raised. Her time there was spent babysitting for several families and spending many hours at her sister-in-law’s knitting and crafting.

In 1991, the family moved to Melfort, SK, later welcoming their daughters, Ashley and Keira, completing the family. Laura was in her realm as her family was complete. Laura spent her days babysitting, and being a mother to all the kids, even if they weren’t her own.

Laura enjoyed being a wife, mother to the kids (hers or not), and really enjoyed knitting, giving away many creations. She also taught her own girls the craft, and would assist anyone who asked. In the summer, her favorite time of year, you could find her playing with flowers in the garden, or knitting something at the lake.

In 2000, the family started a repair business that eventually became Darn Computers. Laura and the kids were the smiling faces when customers came into the store. In 2010, the business moved to a larger location and eventually added Laura’s two favorite sections… office/school supplies and yarn. She always made sure those areas were in tip top shape.

She worked harder than anyone, but her family was always her first priority.

In December 2020, she was diagnosed with cancer and put up a courageous fight proving to the doctors that they were wrong. She stayed positive the whole time and was still the first to smile. Her smile will be missed by all.

Laura was predeceased by her mother and father, Fred and Margaret, infant brother Burton, and brother John.

She will always be remembered by her husband Dean, son Justin, and daughters: Ashley (Kelsey Thomasgard) and Keira (Morgan Tyson); brothers: Howard (Penny) Wiebe, Frederick (Adella) Wiebe, Murray (Karen) Wiebe, and sisters: Kathleen (Neal) Thiessen, and Rita Wiebe, and in-laws: Grace Rowley, Kevin (Koryna) Wallace and Marlene (Randy) Biles. There is much extended family, nieces and nephews and very close friends that will miss her dearly.

A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held.
