MUTTER, Gordon, Ph.D.

August 22, 1935 - January 20, 2024

Gord passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Saturday January 20th. He was a kind, hard working, intelligent man and an athletic adventurous Dad and Grampa who loved to entertain and have fun with friends and family. Gord was the husband of Bev (nee Gall) for 65 years, father of Jeff (Carol), Paul (Doreen) and Jay (Joanne). He was the grandfather of Justin (May) and Julia, Andrew (Andrea) and Ian (Diana), Matthew and Shane and great grandfather of Amelia and Theo. Gord was predeceased by his parents Ina and Thomas and his sisters Shirley and Laurie.

Gord was a graduate of Queens University, The University of Ottawa and the University of Illinois. He worked as a high school teacher, a consultant for the Ottawa Board of Education and Health and Welfare Canada and completed his career at the World Health Organization (WHO).

Gord grew up in Ottawa, and with his wife Bev, moved to Belleville for 4 years. They returned to Ottawa to raise their 3 sons and enjoyed a fulfilling life close to family and good friends. Upon retiring, Bev and Gord moved to the Westport area into their renovated cottage on Devil Lake that became their permanent dream home.

Thanks to Dr Ian Shiozaki and his staff for their help with Gord’s medical care over the years and to the many dear friends, neighbours and family members who were so kind when Gord’s health recently declined.

Friends and family will be received at the Lyons Funeral Home Westport on Friday January 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.. A service for Gord will take place at the Westport United Church on Saturday January 27 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Westport for lunch and sharing of memories.

At Gord’s request, a donation to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
