David Oberkamper was born on January 12, 1949 in Portland, OR to Darwin A. and Francette M. Oberkamper. Dave, or “Obie” as he was known to many, graduated from David Douglas High School in 1967.

In 1970, Dave married Bonnie Piersall and together they had one daughter before divorcing.

Dave was a business owner for much of his life. He owned Kap Rapidprint in downtown Portland until 1997. Anticipating that print shops would fall the way of other small businesses of the time he decided to sell the business and follow a more uncertain but adventurous path.

Following his love of travel, cycling, and history Dave moved to Ireland. He spent 16 1/2 years there working throughout the country helping to restore old manors into Bed & Breakfast Inns and then managing hostels for displaced families and asylum seekers.

Dave lived an adventurous life and was able to pursue many interests. He cycled throughout Europe, rode the Tour de France route, ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, learned to play the Irish tin whistle, and indulged his love of the culinary arts.

In 2013, Dave returned to the United States, living in Colorado until his passing. He remained an avid cook, baseball fan, and artist— many friends and family were the recipients of his watercolor pictures and postcards.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Darwin and Francette, and his younger brother, Douglas “Gus”. He is survived by his daughter Jodi Gallegos, son-in-law Mike, grandsons Alex, Logan, and Brody, his brother Denny, and numerous lifelong friends and “mates”.
