Gordon MacIver Cave

<p>Gordon MacIver Cave, 87, died on January 8, 2024 at the Veterans Hospital in Reno, Nevada from kidney failure, a year-long battle with cancer and other health issues.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>He was born in Oakland, California to parents Dr. Floyd A. Cave and Berniece Bergman Cave. He attended Oakland schools and Piedmont high school. He graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies. He joined the Navy and served in the reserves and active duty at the Alameda Naval Air Station. He worked at the American Can Company and Heinz Ketchup factory in Oakland. He transitioned to the insurance business where he worked for Metropolitan Life and Farmers Insurance. He obtained his CLU in insurance. In 1977 the family relocated to Reno, Nevada. He and his wife Pat opened their own insurance brokerage business on Cheney Street in Reno. Gordon really enjoyed interacting and helping a variety of people through his business. Gordon was very involved in spending time outdoors. He and Pat enjoyed camping in remote locations, gold panning, metal detecting, fishing and hunting. He loved taking photographs of unique locations in Nevada. Gordon enjoyed spending time playing his harmonica. He taught harmonica classes at TMCC in Reno and at Maytan Music in Reno. He also formed the “Tin Sandwich Club” a musical group that enjoyed entertaining people in rest homes and senior citizen centers. Gordon and his wife were known for playing the largest and smallest harmonicas in the world. Gordon and Pat also enjoyed square dancing and were a part of the Cloverleaf Square Dance group in Nevada.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Gordon was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Hugh D. Cave. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife Patricia Cave, his daughter Barbara Cave Breslin Sanders (spouse Blue) of Arizona, his brother-in-law Mike Smith of California (spouse Judy) and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.</p><p><br></p><p>The family requests in memory of Gordon that you do a fun outdoor activity with your family and make a donation to your favorite veterans charity to support our veterans.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
