Lifelong Amsterdam resident, Stephen A. Picciocca Sr. passed away at home after a long illness on Friday, January 12th, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Stephen, affectionately known as 'Pepa', was born in Amsterdam, NY on October 30th, 1944, to Anthony and Catherine (Sirchia) Picciocca. He graduated from Lynch High School Class of '62 and received a B.A. from Empire State College.

Stephen had a 30 plus year career working for the State of New York, retiring as a Computer Programmer for Dept. of Heath and Social Services. A highlight of his work career was creating the State's digital payroll system during its paperless transition.

Stephen was an active member of the Amsterdam community. He was past president of the Amsterdam Lions Club, president and long time coach with the Amsterdam Wee-Men Baseball Organization, and one time Board President of the Greater Amsterdam School District. Stephen was a sports enthusiast who always put kids first. Stephen was instrumental with the addition of lights at Lynch Field as well as the construction of the Lynch Middle School pool. Stephen was active with Amsterdam High School sports booster clubs and always attended family games. He was a long serving member of Bigelow Weaver's Association and was a competitive pinochle, fantasy sports, and horse racing enthusiast. Stephen loved summer family vacations in Wildwood, NJ and traveled many European countries. But most of all Stephen enjoyed spending time at home with his family, friends, and many four-legged companions (Boo-Boo, Rosie, Missy, Rocky, and Bronk). He leaves behind a multitude of Amsterdam friends and associates in the community. Stephen welcomed all into his 'open house' and always greeted you with a "Helloooo!".

Stephen is survived by his wife and love of his life Yvonne (Jordan) Picciocca. Married on August 29th, 1998, they shared over 25 beautiful years together and welcomed a son Theodore Picciocca, now residing in Saratoga Springs, NY. Yvonne was Stephen's best friend, soulmate, and primary caretaker during his illness. Stephen was previously married to Donna (Natale) Picciocca and is survived by their son Stephen Jr. (Kathleen) of Amsterdam, NY and Tami (Brendan) Rhatigan of Latham, NY. 'Pepa' was named by his surviving grandchildren; Giovanna Picciocca of Binghamton, NY, Dominic (Elina) Picciocca of Clifton Park, NY, Gino Picciocca of Rochester, NY, and Sean and Ava Rhatigan of Latham, NY. Stephen is also survived by his brother Richard (Kathy) Picciocca of Marco Island, Fl, and sister Cathy Picciocca of Amsterdam, NY. Stephen is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and long time family cousins.

Those who knew him will miss his smile, warmth, and friendliness. The Picciocca family would also like to recognize The Lis family (Angie, Daniel, and Jessica), the Riley Family (Tim and Lisa), and Amanda Greco (visiting nurse) for their support, friendship, and love throughout the last difficult years of Stephen's life.

Family and friends are invited to Stephen's Celebration of Life on January 27, 2024 from 2 to 4 at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY
