Lois Fern Magnus Obituary

Lois Fern Magnus (neé Crowley) was born January 13, 1926, in Ligerwood, North Dakota. The oldest of six children, Lois was raised in Glenside, Saskatchewan until 1932 when the family moved to Tisdale. Lois went to school in Tisdale but would also help her family on their dairy farm. Later, Lois worked during summer holidays at a retail store where the current Royal Bank is located. Lois enjoyed horseback riding, embroidery, and dancing, and it was at a dance at the old Legion Hall where she met the love of her life, Ernie Magnus. Their first date was a week after the dance. They were married on October 27, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran in Saskatoon, SK.

Lois and Ernie lived on a farm until 1949 when they moved to a house in town near her father’s business, Park Service, and this was the home where they raised their 8 children. Lois remained an active member of her community, and at her church, Christ Lutheran. Lois also enjoyed watching her children play sports and attending social events with Ernie, and many times their home was a gathering for extended family and friends to laugh and sing together. In the early 1980’s, Lois and Ernie moved into a new home. Many family gatherings took place in the backyard and basement as the family expanded to include numerous grandchildren. Lois loved being a grandma and spoiling all her grandkids with their favourite treats and hugs. She kept detailed photo albums for each child and grandchild where she treasured all the highlights of their lives. Lois also still loved to dance but unfortunately lost her dancing partner, Ernie to cancer in 1994. Lois then moved to a condominium where she could be found with an apron on, with homemade soup and buns ready for lunch. Lois was also able to travel in these years with her friend Ken Ballard and got to spend quality time with her family in BC and Alberta, attending family celebrations and events. Subsequent to the condominium Lois moved to Caleb Village Senior Living in 2012 and enjoyed numerous happy memories there. Lois peacefully passed from this life on January 11, 2024 at her current residence, Newmarket Place in Tisdale, SK.

Lois was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Ernest “Ernie” Magnus, Jr, parents Hazel (neé Moe) and Stanley “Stan” Crowley, Sr, her sons, Gary and David Magnus, sons-in-law, Garry McKnight and Lawrence Lauinger, siblings Stanley Crowley, Jr, Douglas Crowley and Evelyn Bardal; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends.
