Joe L. "Skeet" Evans Obituary

Joe L. "Skeet" Evans, 82, of Brownton, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in his home. He was born in Flemington on June 21, 1941, a son of the late William Matthew Evans and Loretta Mae (Mitchell) Evans.


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers: Larry “Pee Wee” Evans ,Eugene Evans, William “Jr” Evans, and Eulas Evans; and nephews: Thomas Evans, Rob Evans, Joshua Mayle and Louie Evans.


He is survived by his companion of 33 years, Marlene Maxwell; daughter, Jodi Evans-Harris; son, Joe Evans Jr (Trenna); sisters: Karen Fuller, Loretta Mayle, Wilma Perry, and Sandra Harris; and former spouse, Mary Evans; his grandchildren: Justin Kee, Hope Evans, Elijah Harris, Destinee Harris, Jazlynn Evans, Haidyn Evans, and Leighton Evans; four great-grandchildren; two step-daughters: Christina Gnagey-Elliottt (Charles), and Carrie Moats (Eric); one step-son, Gregory Maxwell; and step-grandchildren: Hope Pisino, Alison Elliott, Issac Elliott, Tamara Reynolds, Elijah Reynolds, Azar Moats, and Addelynn Maxwell, and several nieces and nephews.


Joe was a coal truck driver for many years working at Poling’s, Benson, Johnson and then Circle M trucking companies. He enjoyed watching football, boxing, game shows and in earlier years, could always be found outside working on something to stay busy. He found joy in interacting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was well-known in his community and will be missed by many.


Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home 950 George Washington Hwy Grafton, WV, on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 10 until 1pm.
