Beverly J. Verzal Obituary

Beverly J. Verzal

On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, Beverly J. Verzal, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 85.

Beverly was born on November 19, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Sigmund and Frances Letkiewicz.  Beverly graduated from St. Mary’s Academy (class of 1957).  On September 12, 1959, she married the love of her life, Robert J. Verzal, Sr.  They raised five children, Colleen Sullivan, Kathleen Werth (Alan), Robert Jr. (Cindy), Thomas (Christine) and Mary Sue, and honorary son, Father Norberto Sandoval.

Beverly loved her five grandchildren, Brian (Clare), Cory (Nicole), Dustin (Vanessa), Cole (Caitee) and Katie, and her great granddaughters, Isabella and Carter. Beverly was looking forward to welcoming her two new great grandchildren to the family later this month.

Beverly was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert J. Verzal, Sr., her son, Robert J. Verzal, Jr., her parents, Sigmund and Frances Letkiewicz, her father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Rose Verzal, her brother, David Letkiewicz, her brothers-in-law, John Onestinghel and Bill Verzal, and her nephew, Kevin Verzal. She is survived by her immediate family, her brother, James Letkiewicz (Terry), her sisters-in-law, Patricia Onestinghel and Janet Verzal, and many nieces, nephews, and family members.

A devout Catholic, Beverly was a long-time member of St. Gregory the Great Parish, serving as the Parish Printer for many years, then as an Administrative Assistant for Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Beverly opened her home to many seminarians, priests, nuns, and parish members. Everyone loved to join the Verzal’s for a meal, especially if a Rupena’s pork roast was on the menu.

Beverly was an avid baker and made wonderful desserts like her Nabisco torte, baked cheesecake, Twinkie torte (original recipe from Grandma Verzal).  Her desserts were favorites at family gatherings. She was proud to teach her kids and grandchildren how to properly make the annual treat of Polish Nut Butterhorns – a family tradition that now spans five generations.

Music, singing and dancing were integral to Beverly’s happiness.  As a young girl, she played the accordion. As a mom, you could hear her practice playing ‘Lady of Spain’ or her favorite polkas – long before you walked through the front door.  She sang in her high school Academy Singers and Junior and Senior Ensembles, and she loved traditional Christmas music. As a soprano, she liked to harmonize with her daughters when singing at home. Beverly loved to hit the dance floor, especially for polkas. She taught many how to do the three-step polka.

Beverly was a loving and caring mom, not only to her children, but to other neighborhood kids, too. She was a caregiver to all who were blessed to cross her path.  Together, Beverly and Bob’s life lessons of love, religion, traditions, and family strength have been passed to their family. They are forever reunited in heaven.

The family would like to thank Beverly’s caretakers at Tudor Oaks Retirement Community and Brighton Hospice Care for their support and kind care.

A visitation will be held at St. Gregory the Great Parish, located at 3160 S. 63rd Street, Milwaukee on Wednesday, January 17th from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a Catholic funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either: thE WERTHy Foundation (thewerthy.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association in Beverly’s name.

We love you more, Mom!  JBWY
