Jack E. Lowell Deaton, 86 of rural Ozark, IL passed away Saturday evening at Hillview Nursing Home in Vienna, IL.

He was born February 28, 1937, the son of Lowell and Phrona (Durfee) Deaton. Jack was the father of three children, Juliana, Jill (Daniel) Tanner, Jeffrey Lowell, and two stepdaughters, Tammy (Steven) Shields and Vicki Ross. He loved his grandchildren Rebecca (Phil) Hawkins, Keturah (Justin) Dusch, Amanda LaMarca, Jessica LaMarca, Matthew LaMarca, Emilie (Brandon) Rogowski, Brittany Johnson, Caroline (Dylan) Lyell, Jacob (Megan) Ross, and “adopted granddaughter” Danielle (Tobias) Hausman. He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is survived by his sister Irene (Raymond) Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, daughter Juliana, son Jeffrey, dearly loved wife, Frances Deaton, and son-in-law Scott Ross.

Jack attended Vienna High School and the University of Illinois (Champaign). He was member of New Burnside Baptist Church. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking, fossil hunting, taking photographs, and collecting walking sticks. One of his favorite spring time activities was mushroom hunting, especially with a group of friends. He loved to hand out walking sticks to all the kids and friends that came by for a visit. He was a wealth of information for all the surrounding areas and loved to share stories with everyone.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on January 27, 2024, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Zion Cemetery near Ozark, IL.
