In Loving Memory of William John "Bill" Allen Jr.

June 15, 1925 - January 8, 2024

William John "Bill" Allen Jr., a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep connection to the land he cherished.

Affectionately known as "UNC," he was a source of guidance and Sunday night phone calls telling you to “Smarten Up” that will be profoundly missed by his extensive family, including over 30 nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA.

Predeceased by his mother Catherine, father WJ Sr., as well as his five siblings: older brother Thomas Allen (WWII), sister Pearl Dunlop, brother George Allen, sister Ruth Hansen and brother Fred Allen.

Born to Catherine and W.J. in Semans, Saskatchewan, "on the side of the road allowance," Bill's journey began with a love for farm life that would sustain and fulfill him for over 97 years.

In the 1970s, Bill exemplified his devotion to family by relocating his parents from the farm to town, ensuring their comfort and care for the rest of their lives and with a loving touch, he held their hands as they passed away at home.

A man of humor and warmth, Bill's great sense of humor, captivating stories, and entertaining recitations made him a cherished figure among family and friends. He was known for giving whisker rubs to all his nieces and nephews, creating cherished memories that will be forever held close to their hearts.

Bill's life was a testament to resilience and the joy found in simple pleasures. Despite the "pressures of business" that kept him close to the farm, he made time for family visits in BC and Alberta, connecting with loved ones across borders.

When asked about the secret to his longevity, he'd humorously reply, "Don't Drink, Don't Smoke, Don't Chew - NOR Associate with those who do."

A true steward of the land, Bill worked tirelessly on the family farm, even harvesting his last crop just after his 89th birthday. With a strong sense of tradition and commitment, he held off selling the land until January 2023, ensuring it remained in the Allen Family for a Century, a goal he proudly accomplished!

In celebrating Bill's rich and fulfilling 97 years, let us remember the laughter he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he generously gave. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be touched by his kindness and warmth.

Bill passed away peacefully at Hillview Manor in Estevan, SK on Monday, January 8th, 2024. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Semans Cemetery on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. After the Interment takes place, a Memorial Reception will follow at the Legion Hall in Semans.
