<p>On January 06, 2024, Sandra "Sandy" (Chaney) Ash of Chase City, VA passed away after a brief battle with cancer at her home surrounded by family members. While it was a bleak, rainy day in Chase City,, the sun was brightly shining in Heaven as our angel Sandy joyously moved on to spend eternity with our Lord God. </p><p><br></p><p>Born on June 28, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to Anne Colley Chaney and Ernest Chaney, Sandy grew up in Cheverly, MD and graduated from Bladensburg High School. At a young age she married the love of her life, James Ash. Her life path included a myriad of fulfilling activities, including performing with the world famous Rockette dancers and a distinguished career outside the home that included working for many years for Orthopedic Surgeons before owning her own successful business, However, she would tell you her most rewarding experience was giving birth to, and raising two loving children, Donna and Debbie.</p><p><br></p><p>Sandy and her husband James relocated from Maryland to Chase City, VA in 2000, building her current home on land that has been owned by the Colley family for hundreds of years. A strong, but selfless woman, Sandy was the nucleus of the family. She loved to cook, always enjoyed hosting every family gathering, and when needed, was always the peacemaker who used the wisdom from her life experiences and her outstanding wit to effectively handle any situation.</p><p><br></p><p>Always strong in her Christian faith, Sandy was very active in her church, serving the Lord in activities that included being a deacon, teaching Sunday school, and, of course, based on her great love of cooking, being in charge of nearly every church event that involved food. ,</p><p><br></p><p>Throughout her life, Sandy always had a great love for dogs, referring to them as her babies.. Whether she was raising puppies from birth or adopting any dog who was fortunate enough to show up at her front door, no one could lavish greater love on one of God's furry creatures than Sandy. Even near the end when she was hospitalized and battling cancer, she exhibited her selflessness when her greatest concern centered not on herself but on who in the family was going to feed and care for Puppy, her current "child."</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her brother, Steve Chaney and his wife Connie; cousin/sister, Elizabeth Andrews; two children, Donna Gambino and her husband Phil Gambino; Debbie Harper and her husband Robert Harper; five grandchildren, Amy Harper, Melissa Gleiser, Kristen Harris, Kyle Gambino, and Kaitlyn Beltran: and three great grandchildren, Chloe Harper, Brantley Gleiser, and Hudson Gleiser. </p><p><br></p><p>Sandy was predeceased by her husband James Ash, her parents, Anne Colley Chaney and Ernest Chaney, and her brother, Charles "Buddy" Chaney.</p><p><br></p><p>Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church located at 10077 Old Cox Rd., Chase City, VA.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Sandy's church, Mt. Horeb Baptist Church/Women on Missions. </p><p><br></p><p>Farrrar Funeral Home is serving the Ash family.</p>
