Vernon R Mullins Obituary

Vernon Ray Mullins, 86, of Albion, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on Feb. 21, 1937, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Dewey and Elsie (Meade) Mullins. On April 2, 1961, he married Lucy "Faye" Bentley in Price, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on Dec 27, 2004.  On May 9, 2009, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, he married Mazel Terrell Jones.

Vernon worked for Silgan/Monsanto Plastics for 40 years, where he rose from box maker to lead foreman, before retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mowing his grass, gardening, and being outside. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family and friends. Among the highlights of his life were times spent with his grandsons, brothers and childhood friends at their annual “Liar’s Convention”.  Vernon was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Mazel Mullins, of Albion; his children, Sherry Mullins, of Fort Wayne, Susan (Kevin) Moore, of Albion and Shelly (Lloyd) Geiger, of Fort Wayne; stepchildren, Debbie (Dee) Frye, of LaFayette, Georgia, and Teresa (Tony) Heffner, of Kimmel; his grandchildren, Dane (Sarah) Leitch, Heather (Blake) Zoller, Nathan Geiger, Hannah Geiger, Dylan (Alice) Baxter and Natalie and Lucy Moore; step-grandchildren, Debbie Lee (Christy) Fry, Destiny (Chad) Wallen, Christopher Jones and Tanner (Marriana) Heffner; great-grandchildren, Jaxen, Amelia, Ian, Emeline, Lola, Aubrey, Maiz, Josie, Desiree, Grace, Ellie Mae and Azelie. Also surviving are siblings, Clineon Mullins, of Morehead, Kentucky, and Dorris Bering, of Albion; and sister-in-law, Peggy (Russell) Uptgraft, of Albion.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye; brothers, Darrell Mullins and Farris Lee Keisling; and stepson, Chris Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Jan 11, 2024, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation from noon until service time on Thursday.

Burial with military honors will be held at Wolf Lake Cemetery, near Wolf Lake.
