Debra Lynn Daniels Obituary

Debra Lynn Daniels, 69, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Unity Point Health in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Janell Norton of the Adaville Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.


Debra Lynn Daniels was born on November 8, 1954, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Edward and Audrey Marie (McDonald) Daniels. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1972 and continued her education at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City. Debbie spent most of her working years as a Judicial Clerk for the State of Iowa. She also worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at St. Luke’s Hospital.


Debbie was a member of the Adaville Methodist Church, rural Akron, Iowa. During her working years, she served as an officer with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). She was an avid reader, watched westerns and wrote short stories and articles. Debbie was a cat lover and enjoyed travelling by bus, train and cruising.


She is survived by brothers, Arvin Daniels of Moville, IA and Daryl Daniels and his wife, Donna of Warren, OH; an uncle, Jim McDonald of Dakota Dunes, SD; nieces and nephews, Susan Young, Rick (Carey) Lindsey, Danet Ketelsen, Mike (Marcy) Lindsey, Sara (Morris) Carson, Monty Daniels, Morgan (Leanne) Daniels, Janet (Matt) Sorenson, Loren Postma, Corey Daniels and Kym Daniels; along with several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.


Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; sisters, Janet (Clint) Lindsey and Loretta (Ken) Boelter; a brother, Leonard Daniels, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Daniels; nephews, Randy Lindsey and Jerry Young; and a niece, Deb Postma.
