Thelma W. Gray

<p>Utica, NY: Thelma W. (Weatherington) Gray, 77, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Thelma was born in New York, NY, March 10, 1946. She was raised and educated in Utica, where she graduated from Utica Free Academy (UFA). She continued her education at Mohawk Valley Community College, received her New York State Registered Nursing Degree, and received a Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Institute of Technology in Marcy. She was united in marriage to Cholley Gray in Buffalo, NY. Mr. Gray passed away in 2014. Mrs. Gray held nursing positions at various facilities throughout the area including, the Masonic Care Community and Broad Acres Nursing Home. After graduating from Beauty School, Thelma owned and operated Personal Touch Hair Salon, on West Street in Utica, for many years. She had also been the administrator of the Leisure Time Activities Center. on West Street, in Utica, and held a position with the Rescue Mission, ACC in Utica. She had a great love for children that led her to becoming a foster parent for many in Oneida County. Thelma was a member of Paynes Temple COGIC, on John Street, in Utica and was devoted to her faith which led her to become a licensed Missionary.</p><p>She is survived by her two sons, Anthony C. Gray and his companion, Wanda Wnuk, and Colley L. Gray all of Utica; two grandchildren, Vanessa Gray, and Tatyana Shields; her companion of over sixty years, Thomas Moore of Utica; sisters, Margaret Mack of FL, and Joann Weatherington of Binghamton, NY; brother, Otis Weatherington of Harlem, NY; and also several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.</p><p>Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Thelma’s funeral service, Monday afternoon, January 15, 2024 at 2:00 at Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica (at the Matt Funeral Home).</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
