Tordis Alva Thoring aged 94 years of Frontier, Saskatchewan died on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre. She was born on the Friggstad family farm, south of Frontier, May 9, 1918. She received her education at Paradise Valley School, Frontier School and her nurses training in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tordis got her certificate in Practical Training June 11, 1943. She worked in Saskatoon and at the Frontier Hospital. She married Vernon Thoring on April 15, 1945 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Mabel, who married Willard Nelson. Their wedding was at the Mission House, south of Frontier. That same year Vernon and Tordis bought their farm one and one half miles south of Frontier. They lived there for 31 years before moving into Frontier in 1976. Tordis was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Berto Friggstad, her husband Vernon, her sisters Ester, Agnes, Mabel, her brother Olaf and two grandchildren, Ashley and Lacey Thoring. She is survived by four children Agnes Howell (George) of Robsart, Saskatchewan, Opal Skarphol (Mark) of Cope, Colorado, Raymond Thoring (Diane) of Frontier and Rod Thoring (Colleen) of Frontier, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Clifford Thoring and Norman Braaten, four sisters-in-law Olive Thoring, Frances Anderson, Marion Braaten and Edna Thoring, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held from Bethel Lutheran Church in Frontier on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Martin Christensen officiating. Interment was held at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Special music was provided by Chase and Brooks Thoring. The Pianist was Janice Friggstad. The eulogy was presented by Obert Friggstad, Terry Friggstad and Audrey Hagen. Binkleys Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were: Tracy Howell, Jody Howell, Ryan Howell, Jordan Thoring, Chase Thoring, and Brooks Thoring.
