Fred Scribner Obituary

Mr. Fred Scribner aged 82 years, of Eastend , Saskatchewan , and formerly of Shaunavon , Saskatchewan passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 29, 2002 at the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre. Fred was born at Shaunavon , Saskatchewan on July 12, 1920 and received his education at the Orange Valley School . He helped his dad on the farm and worked out in the mine during the winter. He served in the army during the Second World War as a motorcycle dispatch rider. He returned to work on his parents farm and worked in lumber camps in Ontario and mines in British Columbia during the winter months. Fred married Florence Floberg at Vancouver on May 7, 1950 . He drove a delivery truck for a dry-cleaning company and also delivered coal. They returned to Shaunavon in 1954 and farmed with his brother, Jack. Fred was a councillor for the R.M. of Arlington for several years and served on the board of the local telephone company. Florence and Fred enjoyed many years of traveling together in their leisure time. In his younger years, Fred took great pleasure in playing ball. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golfing during his retirement years. Fred became a resident of Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre about two and one-half years ago and married Carol Goddu on December 19, 2001. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Florence , his parents, Ed and Alma Scribner, his brother, Jack and one sister, Lois Bellefleur. He is survived by his wife, Carol, one daughter, Lynn Girodat (Don), of Shaunavon, four grandchildren, Warren (Kerri) of Gull Lake and their children, Tiffany, Lexie and Evan; Greg, of Saskatoon; Twyla Rosser (David) of Pontiex and their children, Karen, Christine and Adam; and Tara Fritz (Kelly) of Shaunavon, four sisters-in-law, Jean Scribner and Peggy Aldag-Older (Lloyd), both of Shaunavon, Carol Floberg of Medicine Hat, and Lil Floberg of Shaunavon, his brother-in-law, Ludge Bellefleur of Ottawa, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held from Christ the King R.C. Church in Shaunavon, on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Father Joseph Infant officiating. Oren Scribner presented the eulogy. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion attended, forming a guard of honor and conducted the Legion Grave Side Service. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Binkleys Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Prayer Services lead by Reverend Father Joseph Infant were held at Christ the King R.C. Church in Shaunavon on Monday, September 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Eddie Scribner, Stan Scribner, Barry Floberg, Bruce Shulson, Gerald Aldag, and Wayne Shulson.
