Stefano Dell'Angelo Obituary

Stefano "Steve" Dell’Angelo passed away on December 29, 2023, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York, at the age of 64 following a brief illness. He was born on January 14, 1959, in Nusco, Italy, to the late Aniello Dell’Angelo and Irene Prudente.

Steve's life was woven with love and commitment. He married Catherine Fuda Dell’Angelo on July 3, 1983, at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. Steve was a dedicated family man and leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Aniello Giovanni Dell’Angelo, Irene Dell’Angelo (Matthew Endres), Salvatore Dell’Angelo (Kelcey Duax), and his cherished grandchildren, August Jameson Dell’Angelo and Giuliana Dell’Angelo.

Steve earned his Certificate in Accounting at L’Istituto Tecnico Commerciale in Italy. His life was marked by hard work and dedication. From owning Dom’s Pizza to his retirement as a baker, Steve exemplified loyalty and commitment in every role. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially playing Scala with friends, savoring Chivas Regal & Dewars, and watching his favorite soccer team, Juventus, at "The Café."

A man of strong values, Steve found solace in his Roman Catholic faith. His trips to Nusco, Italy, were cherished moments where he reconnected with family, relishing the company of his siblings, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Steve's personality was characterized by his generosity, loyalty, and a touch of Italian flair. He treasured moments with his grandchildren, finding pure happiness in their company, showering them with love and Italian treats. His children remember him for his unwavering love and occasional stubbornness, always proud of their achievements.

Steve loved to play Scala with his friends. On his honeymoon, because he was going to be away from his regular Scala games for a week, he taught his new wife how to play it on the second day.

When he was with his grandchildren August and Giuliana he was the happiest, always smiling from ear to ear. He was not a man of much “elaborate doing” of things with them but simply enjoyed quality time hanging out with them, playing outdoors with them, especially soccer. He loved to watch the excitement and joy on their faces when he would bring them the Mix Max Cakes (never a visit without), when their eyes lit up from the Nutella, biscotti, and Perugina Easter Eggs from Italy.

He loved his children and they him. His oldest son, Aniello, was his greatest challenge, their personalities were very different; however, Steve was always and the most proud of the fact that Aniel gave him 2 of life’s greatest most precious gifts of this world, August and Giuliana. Steve also admired and was extremely proud of what a great father Aniel was to his children. His daughter, Irene, was Daddy’s girl throughout her entire childhood. They would watch Pink Panther as often as it aired. Sometimes he struggled to communicate with her after those teenage years; however, as she grew into her young adult life, he was proud of her accomplishments as a young lady, her beauty, compassionate heart, and caring soul. With his youngest, Salvatore, his heart swelled with pride because of the young man he had become, as well as his accomplishments and success at such a young age, Steve often talked about Sal’s ability to understand him with no judgement as well as how easy he found it to talk to Sal. Sal was his baby boy. Although he struggled with communicating and showing emotion, (he was a very private man) he loved his family with all the love he had in him to feel.

After visiting with his grandchildren, he spent his Sundays with Uncle Sal and Aunt Lucy at their home, while Uncle Sal made his favorite foods, his most favorite being pasta any way one could make it. When he was first married and one of his first dinners was steak and potatoes he asked “where’s the pasta, we always need pasta as the “primi piatti” no matter what else the meal is”. He thought of his Aunt Lucy and Uncle Sal as surrogate parents here in America. Aunt Lucy and Uncle Sal loved him like a son. He lived for and looked forward to his annual trips to his home in Italy to spend as much time as he could with his Mother, Sisters, Brothers, Nieces, Nephews, all his family and friends. He was his most comfortable and best self when he was in Nusco, Italy with them. Some of his children’s best memories of their dad are of the times they went with him to Nusco. At those times, he was the most comfortable and happiest. Steve’s loyalty and love for all his family and friends was one of his greatest traits

He will be dearly missed by his surviving family, including his children, grandchildren, wife, mother, his siblings in Italy; Giovanni Dell’Angelo (Carmella), Rosa Dell’Angelo, Lina Dell’Angelo (Arcangelo), MariaRosaria Dell’Angelo, (Giovanni) Salvatore Dell’Angelo (Rosaria), his Aunt/Uncle, Salvatore Prudente (Lucy), mother in law & Father in law, Salvatore Fuda (Marie), brother and sister In Law, Domenic Fuda (Mirella), Rose Renda (late Joe), Christine Bonesteel (Matt), nieces and nephews; Aniello Dell’Angelo, Dario Dell’Angelo (Deborah), Monica Della Vechia (Daniele), Maria Felicia Contino (Marco), Irene Contino(Alessandro), Erika Dell’Angelo (Giuseppe), Mara Dell’Angelo (Amato), Alessio Dell’Angelo (Valentina), Marie Eastman (Christopher), Rosa Belmonte (Nicholas), Veronica Fuda, Salvatore Fuda (Natalie), Teresa Renda, Vittoria Renda, Samantha Bonesteel (Jake), Anthony Bonesteel, by 7 Great Nieces and nephews, several cousins, as well as his closest friends, Giacomo Giglio and Joe Androne. He was predeceased by his father and by his aunt and uncle, Angleo and Jenny Prudente.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 6 PM at Bowen & Parker Funeral Home, Latham, NY. All are invited to visit with Steve’s family at the funeral home before the service, from 3 to 6 PM. A memorial Mass will be held in Nusco, Avellino Italy, where Steve will be laid to rest with his father.

Steve’s legacy of love, dedication, and family values will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
