Walter 'Ralph' Meyer Obituary

Ralph Meyer

October 7, 1922-December 21, 2023

It is with gratitude for a long and blessed life, that we share the passing of our Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Husband, Step-father, at the age of 101, at Meyer Drive, Goderich. Dad always said that he had a charmed life and, as luck would have it, after our mother passed away in 1982, he met and married Margaret. He was a loving husband to Margaret for 40 years. Devoted father of Anthony Meyer (Gloria), Maryann Gavin (Marshall), Rose Blake (Peter), Carol Wahl (Phil), Gregory Meyer, Lisa Debeljak (John), Christopher Meyer (Karen), John Meyer (Jennifer), and daughter-in-law Sheila Meyer. Fondly remembered by Margaret’s children Joanne Beliski (Duane), Joseph Beliski (Diana), and John Beliski (Tammy); Margaret’s grandchildren Coreana, Tanya, Tyler, Justin, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Proud Grandpa to Andrew, Lesley, Michael, Tara, Matthew, Andrew, Brendan, Kirsten, Natalie, Zachary, Sarah, Julianna, Alexandra, Sophia, and Chloe. Great-Grandpa to Violet, Maeva, Aubrey, Macy, Kayla, Raelyn, Josephine, Mateo and Lailah. Devoted uncle to David Waechter, brother-in-law to Rosemary Mussar, and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his beloved wife of 33 years, Ruth Freiburger, and his dear daughter Joanne Meyer (Stuart). Also predeceased by parents Walter Meyer and Johannah Roberts, sister Lorraine Waechter (Ralph), and grandsons James Gavin, and Jesse Beliski.

Dad had a deep love for his family and took immense pride and continuing interest in all of our endeavours. We will remember his kindness, spirit, wit, gratitude, humour, and utter enjoyment of a beautiful sunset. Above all, his strong faith was evident in all that he did in life. He was actively involved with his church, the Knights of Columbus, men’s choir, and notably, made thousands of rosaries for distribution around the world.

Dad was a Veteran of WWII and served in the RCAF. A self-made entrepreneur, together with his partners he operated Washerama in downtown Kitchener for more than 30 years. Over the years his full life included interests in music, antique collecting, family genealogy, restoring several old homes including a century-old farmhouse, developing a family vacation property for his children, establishing the Maryhill Historical Society, lapidary, birdwatching, and of course his favourite pastime, playing bridge, from which he made many life-long friends. Raised in Guelph, Dad had longtime ties to Kitchener, Waterloo, Maryhill, and finally, beautiful Goderich, where he and Margaret happily settled and made their home for 30 years.

Special thanks to dedicated care-providers Cindy, Deb, Shelsie, nurses Annerieke and Julie, and Patricia Robinson, N.P. Thanks also to Veterans Affairs Canada, Deacon Brian MacDonald, and Lindsea Brown.

Visitations will take place at Falconer Funeral Home, 201 Suncoast Drive East, Goderich on Thursday, December 28, from 2:00-4-00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m., with Rosary recitation at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Goderich on Friday, December 29th at 9:00 a.m. Prayers & interment at 1:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Cemetery, Maryhill Road, Maryhill.
