Obituary

William (Bill) Davis Moriarty, resident of Reno since 2020, and Nevada since 2000, passed away at home on November 15, 2023 of natural causes. He was 84 years old.

Bill was born on October 26, 1939 in Berkeley, CA to John Singleton Moriarty and Viola Davis Moriarty (born Margaret Viola Davis). He was raised in Albany, CA with his younger brother. After his parents divorced in 1945, his mother and grandmother, Rosetta McWhorter Davis, raised them. Bill attended Albany High School and UC Berkeley, where he was a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma chemistry fraternity. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering in 1962.

He married Rosalind Gail Troxell on June 30, 1962 and had 2 children (Kent and Jill) then divorced and married Anne Marie Pedersen Stelle on December 28, 1974 and had one son (Scott) and gained two sons by marriage (Michael and Eric).

After college he was a test engineer for liquid rocket engines at North American Aviation at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster, CA and at Aerojet General Corporation in Rancho Cordova, CA before joining Chevron Chemical Co. in 1965. As a plant manager in the Ortho Fertilizer and Consumer Products divisions, he moved with the company from Richmond, CA, to Magna, UT, back to Richmond, CA then to Maryland Heights, MO where he retired on December 31, 1994 after 29 years.

For his adult life, he enjoyed singing as a baritone with Barbershop Harmony Society choruses (SPEBSQSA) wherever he lived, traveling around the country to attend and perform in the barbershop competitions, and visiting Yosemite (he fondly remembered climbing to the top of Half Dome).

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Anne Marie Moriarty (nee Pedersen) and brother Richard Davis Moriarty. He is survived by his daughter Jill Wait (Joshua-Joel) and sons Kent Moriarty (Ann Harder), Scott Moriarty, Michael Stelle (Jennifer Mahar), and Eric Stelle (Cynthia Tidwell) along with six grandchildren [Kayla Owen-Stelle (Patrick) and Madison Stelle through Michael, Henry and Kathryn Stelle through Eric, and Benjamin and Elijah Wait through Jill].

He will be interned at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA to reside with his mother, Davis grandparents and McWhorter great-grandparents.
