Daniel Smith

Daniel “Danny” R. Smith, 87 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 11:20 AM peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Wellsburg Healthcare Center under the care of the staff with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice.

Danny was born on November 5, 1936 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late Daniel G. and Anna (Bibbo) Smith.

Danny retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and was a member of the Wellsburg Christian Church. Many will remember Danny for his love of sports from the Steelers, Pirate and WVU and his vacations; but most of all, he was a good guy.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his two children, Bridgette Jo (Smith) Skiba and Dominic “Nick” Smith, a grandson, Daniel Thomas, infant granddaughter, Maggie Ann Hinchee and a sister, Vickie “Sis” Mercer.

Danny is survived by his wife of 66 years, Iliene “Diddy” (Cole) Smith of Wellsburg, WV, daughter, DeeAnn Schwertfeger and her husband, Mark E. of Follansbee, WV, a son-in-law, Robert Skiba of Colliers, WV, four grandchildren, Jesse DiBattista and her husband, Nick, Jake Schwertfeger, and Rick and Rob Thomas, great granddaughter, Harper Louise DiBattista and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM until time of Funeral Service 7:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551 with Chaplain Jon Hudnall, officiating.
