<p>Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home in Opelousas for Charles M. Hicks, age 70, who passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at his residence in Lafayette.</p><p><br></p><p>Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Brother Perry Hubbs will officiate at the services.</p><p><br></p><p>Charles was a native of Opelousas, and a current resident of Lafayette. He retired from the Louisiana DOTD, as a bridge inspector, after many years. Surveying, drafting, and investing were side jobs he fully enjoyed. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church in Opelousas for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to his camp, cooking, and traveling. He adored his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter more than life itself. Charles will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include his companion and life partner, Freida Simon of Lafayette, and her two sons, Chad Simon and his wife, Stacey and their daughters, Millie and Zoe Simon of Colorado, and Joey Simon of Youngsville; his mother, Alice G. Hicks of Opelousas; one son, Reggie Pitre of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Charisse Hicks Guidry of Opelousas; two brothers, Nelson Hicks and his wife, Rose of Opelousas, and Larry Hicks of Lake Charles; one sister, Barbara Hicks of Opelousas; four grandchildren, Julia Guidry Prudhomme of Lafayette, Jonathan C. Guidry of Port Barre, Lorryn Kizer of San Antonio, Texas, and Jacob J. Guidry of Port Barre; his great-granddaughter, Jessie Lynn Prudhomme; a son-in-law, Johnny C. Guidry of Port Barre; a sister-in-law, Debbie Hicks of Opelousas; a brother-in-law, Mickey Dupre and his wife, Cathy of Opelousas; and numerous dear nieces, nephews, and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Glenda D. Hicks; his father, Thomas James Hicks, Sr.; and his brother, Thomas James “T.J.” Hicks, Jr.</p><p><br></p><p>The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers will be Jacob Guidry, Jonathan Guidry, Johnny Guidry, Mickey Dupre, Justin Dupre, and Nelson Hicks.
