A Private Family Graveside service for Helen Marie James Ikner, 95, of Hartselle, will be at 11:30 on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Johnson Chapel Cemetery. A Private Family Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 at Peck Funeral Home.

 Helen was born on September 23, 1928 to Howard Lee James and Mable Gretchen Sandlin James. She died on December 2, 2023 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Our mother taught us to be kind to others, have good manners, showed us by example to work hard. She was a tough old bird (that’s what she called herself). That’s how she lived to be 95 years of age. She fought hard through her illnesses. Her presence will be missed in our lives. She was loved by her family. 

Helen was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Decatur, AL. She was a graduate of Morgan County High School. Helen was the owner/cosmetologist of The Beauty Spot in Decatur where she styled ladies’ hair for over 30 years. She resided at Columbia Cottages for over 8 years. 

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mable James and a brother, Charles Lee James.

Survivors include:

Son: Jerald Ikner

Daughter: Janice Ikner Roberson (Mike)

Brother: Edward James

Sister: Freda James Ikner

Two Grandchildren: 
Chris Ikner (Jessica) and Amanda Roberson Sparkman (Richie).

Six Grandchildren: 
Phoenix, Anna-Grace, Bryant, Ford, Laylah, and Chris.

Pallbearers will be Mike Roberson, Chris Ikner, Phoenix Ikner, Ken James, Bryant Sparkman, and Ford Sparkman.

We want to thank Dana & Ceaira at Columbia Cottages and all the workers for the care they gave our mother. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
