Harriet Pressler Obituary

Harriet Pressler passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. She was the wife of U.S. Senator Larry Pressler of South Dakota.


She is survived by her husband, her daughter Laura (Robert) Bentley, grandchildren Ryan, Julia, Addison, and Bethany. She is also survived by siblings Patricia Taylor, Gary McMahon, Greg McMahon, and Danielle McMahon, as well as Jessica Joseph.


Harriet McMahon was born in Uniontown, PA on November 20, 1941 and raised by her parents Daniel and Genevieve McMahon and William and Josephine Orr.


She was a distinguished real estate broker with RE/MAX for many years. She previously worked in public relations, was a high-level Congressional staffer and worked for the Republican National Committee. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and well regarded as a genuinely friendly, thoughtful, and caring friend to many and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an exceptional asset to her husband's campaigns and public service.


Friends may call on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2pm until 4 pm at the DeVol Funeral Home, 2222 Wisconsin Ave., N.W. (valet parking will be provided).  Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 2436 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20037. Prior to the funeral Mass, there will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the church.  A reception will follow after the Mass in the Crystal Room of the church.
