<p>CHESAPEAKE- Roy Eldon McCollum joined his heavenly father and loved ones on November 29, 2023. He was born November 19, 1946, in McKinney, Texas, and celebrated his 77th birthday ten days before.</p><p><br></p><p>Roy was a devoted member of Westhaven Baptist Church and held many positions over the years, including boys' class teacher, committee member, coordinator of ministry, chairman of the deacons, and multimedia team chairman. Roy and Joy were the first couple married in the existing sanctuary in 1967.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy Manly McCollum, two children, Tracey (Chris) and Troy (Crystal) &amp; 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Crystiana, Preston, and Carson.</p><p><br></p><p>Roy served four years as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, earning National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He fought 13 months on the front line in the Vietnam War as a 0341 Mortarman.</p><p><br></p><p>He retired from Supship Newport News as Director of Data Processing for 24 years. During his final years as director, he opened and operated MCS Computers for 28 years.</p><p><br></p><p>Services will be held Monday, December 4, at Sturtevant Funeral Home Portsmouth Blvd, VA, at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation at 10:00 am before the service. Burial will be held in Olive Branch Cemetery following the service. Rev.
