Herbert John King DILTS

<p>Herbert John King Dilts passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023 at the Elk Valley hospital in Fernie, BC. He was born on January 4, 1939 in Fernie, the eighth child of Alice and Bill Dilts. </p><p>Herb was raised in Waldo, BC and on the Dilts Ranch on the Kootenay River, not far from Plumbob Creek. He helped run the ranch until he married his wife Janet on June 17, 1967. </p><p>Herb is survived by his daughter Julie and sons Paul Dilts and Garth Jules, grandchildren Sara. Jacob, Jordan, and Cody, and four great granddaughters. He also is survived by two brothers, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his parents, his wife Janet, a granddaughter, six siblings, and four nephews. </p><p>Herb graduated from Dawson Creek College with an Agricultural Course and worked in many places in BC and Alberta. After Janet’s death he moved back to the East Kootenays where he resided until his death. </p><p>Herb loved the outdoors, riding horseback, and hunting. He enjoyed playing hockey and ball and was a fantastic horseshoe player. He tried his hand at bull riding, played golf in his later years, and played a great game of crib. Herb also enjoyed horse racing and liked to visit the track. </p><p>As his health declined, Herb required assistance from home care. The family would like to thank the healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors who helped him over the past few years. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Elk Valley Hospital who cared for him these past weeks, with special thanks to Dr. Stuckey, who Herb had a great deal of respect for. </p><p>A memorial for Herb will be held at Jaffray Community Hall on Saturday, December 9th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to an animal rescue in your area. </p>
