Philip P. Curcuru Sr. Obituary

Philip P. Curcuru Sr., 78, of Gloucester, husband of Josephine J. “Joyce” (Lovasco) Curcuru passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Winchester Hospital in Winchester.


He was born in Gloucester, MA on January 30, 1945, son of the late Joseph and Angela (Nicastro) Curcuru. He attended St. Ann’s School and in his early years began fishing. He was one of 13 children and certainly was a family man.


Phil worked for Cape Pond Ice Company for 25 years and later at Allied Cold Storage as an Ammonia Refrigeration Mechanic for many years.


He was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix It” if he couldn’t fix it no one could. He was a natural born engineer. He loves his scratch tickets. Phil was a cancer survivor of 22 years and walked for 10 years for the Relay for Life. He carried the St. Peter’s Statue for years in the St. Peter’s parade.


Phil was member of the St. Peter’s Club and the Gloucester Lodge of Elks.


He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


Philip is survived by his wife of 56 years, J. Joyce Curcuru; son, Philip Curcuru Jr. and his wife Catherine; daughters, Lynne Curcuru, Angela McCole and her husband John; his greatest joy were his grandchildren, Sabella Curcuru, Angelena Curcuru, Jude Szuter and Cade Szuter; sisters, Rosalie Genovese, Phillippena Souza, Grace Favalora and Jennie MacKinnon; brothers, Joseph Curcuru and his wife Grace, Benny Curcuru and his wife Debbie, Anthony Curcuru and his wife Jean; sisters-in-law, Jennie (Aiello) Curcuru, Susan (Abbott) Lovasco, Beverly (Marchant) Curcuru and Ida Lovasco.


He was predeceased by his siblings, Sammy Curcuru, and his wife Antoinetta (Claire), John Curcuru, Jimmy Curcuru, Philomena Misuraca and her husband Vito, Felicia Aiello, and her husband Anthony; brothers-in-law, Sebastian “Buddy” Lovasco, Claude Souza, Anthony Genovese, and Vito Favaloro; his in-laws, Michael, and Lena Lovasco.


His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church from 9 to 10 a.m. 


Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.


In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
