Obituary
Patrick Edward Murphy, 82, of Battle Creek, MI passed away Saturday, November 25th, 2023 at his home with family by his side. He was born July 5th, 1941 in Flint, MI; the son of Edward Murphy and Mildred (Pichner) Murphy. Pat married Elaine Graczyk on August 31st, 1963 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Flint, MI.
Pat and Elaine recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August. It all began in Flint where they met at a dance hosted by the YWCA and they spent many happy years together after that. He was a loving and proud husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time showing his grandchildren movies and playing with his great grandson, Jaxson.
After 40 years of dedicated service, Pat retired from the railroad. During those years, he spent 8 years working for the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) as General Secretary Treasurer for 4 years and 4 years as General Chairman before he retired. Pat spent 6 years in the Marine Corps Reserves during the years of 1962-1968. He loved spending time with his beagles and he was a member of the Old Dominion Beagle Club in Virginia. He was an avid U of M football fan, enjoyed umpiring for numerous sports, and collecting sports memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Murphy; children: Kathleen (Andrew) Askler and Maureen Murphy; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Askler, McKenzie Askler, Alyssa Askler, Elaine Broadwell, Pauline McKinley, and Brian Murphy, Jr.;7 great grandchildren; sister, Connie (Charles) Middleton; and two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Mildred Murphy; and his son, Brian Murphy.
The family would like to thank Centrica Care Navigators Hospice for their services and in particular Mari Jo and Joni.
Visitation will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a recitation of the Chapter of Divine Mercy at 12:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Hicks Cemetery in Pennfield Twp., MI.
