<p>Mrs. June Rose Overton Dougherty, age 79 of Chase City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023. She retired from the Department of Corrections where she was a security guard for 20 years. June was a member of Concord Baptist Church.</p><p><br></p><p>June enjoyed going on adventures, spoiling those she loved and will be remembered, in part, for her delicious homemade chicken salad. She was the centerpiece of the family, providing strength, unity and support. Her bold and feisty personality set the standard to protect and defend her family, which she passed down to generations. Above all else she treasured her family, which is her legacy. </p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lynwood Overton &amp; Iris Manning Overton and by her husband, Edward Franklin Dougherty. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Overton Thompson, nieces Cathy Simmons Dennis (Jason), Crystal Williams (Andrew), and nephew Jonathan Thompson (Ericka), grand nephews Larry Simmons, Drew Simmons, Andrew Kole Williams, grand niece Jessika Williams and a very special great grand nephew Quint Simmons. She is also survived by numerous other family members and friends. Lastly, she is survived by her faithful companion and dog, Buddy. </p><p><br></p><p>A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1pm, Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Crestview Memorial Park, LaCrosse, VA. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11-12 at the funeral home. Memorial considerations in her memory may be directed to Concord Baptist Church, 11650 Hwy 47, Chase City, VA 23924.
