James "Jim" McKinley Bollinger Obituary

James “Jim” McKinley Bollinger, 85, of Marble Hill, passed away on November 24, 2023, at his home. He was born on August 16, 1938, to the late B.H. and Willa (Corbin) Bollinger, in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Jim was a banker for over 25 years at the Bank of Marble Hill. He was also the Bollinger County Assessor for 16 years, prior to retiring.  He loved to garden and raise tomatoes. It has been said that Jim could BBQ chicken, better than anyone. When Jim was at the grill, people were standing in line waiting. He liked nature. He liked to watch things grow, and he enjoyed watching the hummingbirds.

On June 11, 1983, Jim and Vernelle (Maze) Horton, were united in marriage at the New Salem Church in Marble Hill. The image of a great couple, Jim and Vernelle did everything together. They would cook, fish, clean and listen to music together.

Jim is survived by his wife Vernelle Bollinger; three sons: Carl Horton Jr of Indianapolis, IN, Dion Horton of Marble Hill, MO, Alan (Jane) Bollinger of Des Moines, Iowa; four daughters: Tamara (Duane) Cook of Marble Hill, MO, Monica (Glyn) Jarrell of Bloomfield, MO, Gina (Steve) Stoverink of Malden, MO, Jill James of The Villages, FL; two brothers: Kenneth (Fran) Bollinger of Marietta, GA, Benny (Debbie) Bollinger of Sturdivant, MO; fifteen grandchildren: Lance, Tyler, Adam, Alex, John David, Trevor, Sydney, Carson, Noah, Ben, Blake, Justin, Chris, Felisa, Kali; twenty three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Lance VanGennip, Tyler VanGennip, Carson Jarrell, Glyn Jarrell, Duane Cook and Jim Cooper.

Services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 11:00 AM. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Bro. Gerald Huff officiating. Burial will follow at the Bollinger County Memorial Park.
