Richard Cornell Emery Obituary

Richard “Dick” Emery was born in New Rochelle, New York on January 12, 1940, to Theodore and Frances Emery. He was the oldest of three children. As a teen, his family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but he returned to New York after high school. After moving around on the west coast between California and Oregon, Dick and his son Steven moved to Houston where he met his wife Barbara and her sons Michael, Scott and Jeff Rudd. They were married on November 16, 1973 and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary. Sadly, Dick passed away on November 23, 2023.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marjorie Farrell, a daughter, and son Michael Rudd. He is survived by his wife Barbara and their children Steve (Cami) Emery, Scott (Jeanne) Rudd and Jeff (Kim) Rudd. His grandchildren Josh Haxton, Steven (Shalon) Emery, Matthew Emery; Jeffery Rudd; Ryan (Kate) Rudd, Kiana Rudd, Brett Rudd; Ashlyn Rudd and fiancé Michael Reyes, Alexis R. (Tristan) Noeldner; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his brother Arthur, and his family in New York.

Dick was a member of the Laborer’s Union for over 20 years. He started his own company, Concrete Contractors of Huffman, in 1980 and stayed in business for over 30 years. He was very active in community and civic organizations including the J C’s, Lion’s Club, EMS, the Civic Club and mission work through the church. Dick and Barbara loved to travel, but once he retired, he was happy spending time on his boat and fishing. When he lost his boat in Hurricane Ike, his passion for serving others turned to mission projects outside the Houston area.

Dick’s enthusiasm was infectious, so he never had trouble getting a group together for a mission trip. Until a stroke, injuries and poor health shut him down, he was always looking for the next project. When Dick could no longer serve due to his health, he felt like he was letting down the Lord, he was always trying to figure out how to serve. Let’s let this be his last mission trip. Let this day instill in your heart the desire to reach out to

those in need and lift up the less fortunate, not just during the Christmas season, but as a regular part of your life.

If you prefer to make a donation in lieu of flowers, Dick would be honored if you considered one of the following: Christ the King Benevolent Fund, Christ the King Missions Fund ,St Jude’s Children’s Hospital
