Emil Sapere Obituary

Emil Sapere Jr., 77, of Jupiter Florida (formerly Wethersfield, Glastonbury, and Niantic CT) beloved husband of Mary Sapere passed away peacefully at home, on November 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family, after battling cancer for the past year.

Born in Hartford, CT on July 3, 1946 to Emil and Anne Sapere. In addition to his treasured wife Mary of 58 plus years, he is survived by his two loving children, Kristina and Michael Kearney of Portsmouth, RI and Jupiter FL, and his Son Emil Sapere III and his wife Tracy of Tolland, CT and his four special grandchildren; Brianna Kearney, Colby Sapere, Chase Sapere and Ava Sapere.


Emil was the oldest of four children and is survived by his brother Michael Sapere and his wife Sandra of Glastonbury, CT and sister Renee Singer and her husband Jay of Westerly, RI and Jupiter FL and had survived his brother Gregg Sapere of Munson, MA.


Emil attended Wethersfield High School and Cheshire Academy. After his high school education, Emil served honorably in the United States Air Force, in active duty with combat deployments in Vietnam from 1966-1968.


Emil’s career spanned over 4 decades with his dedicated service to Hartford Hospital and The Institute of Living; with countless contributions to the Administration and Facilities Management team. His expertise expanded different areas of both hospitals, which included state of the art operating rooms and many patient facilities. His work at the hospital lead to his inspiration in supporting many local philanthropic efforts, most notably the support of Connecticut Children’s Hospital with focus on childhood cancer.


Emil had a love of music and was a talented pianist, singer, accordion player and he loved to dance. He enjoyed sharing that gift with his extended family while hosting his many parties and holiday open houses. He was gregarious and outgoing with a strong sense of humor and was a treasured friend that always had time to be present and enjoy life’s journey with others. He loved traveling to Italy and Europe, cooking, golf, researching different topics, and relished the many adventures that followed. He will be missed by many.


His life and legacy will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 12:30pm in St. Paul Church of SS. Isidore and Maria Parish 2577 Main St. Glastonbury, CT 06033. Memorial donations may be made to the Ruby Slipper Cancer Foundation for Children, 95 Chase Rd. Portsmouth, RI 02871.
