Pamela Tillman Newark, New Jersey Obituary

Pamela Tillman

Pamela Tillman, daughter of Annie Rossie and the late Leroy Tillman, was born on August 15, 1962 in Newark, New Jersey. After spending 30+ years fulfilling her passion of helping others, she was called back home to her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2014 suddenly but very peacefully. As a child, Pamela received her early education from Quitman Street School and graduated from Central High School Class of 1980. A member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in her early years, Pamela served as Sunday School Treasurer, was a member of the Junior Missionary group and was a member of the young adult choir. Before turning to the education field, Pamela was a medical assistant at Rhomur Medical Center on Sixteenth Avenue in Newark. Pamela had an unyielding passion for helping others and her greatest enjoyment came from making a strong impact in the lives of her many students. She was more than just a teacher to her students; to many she was a second mom, a counselor, a walking diary and an unfiltered advice column ready to say any and everything that was on her mind. Anyone who came into contact with Pamela could feel the encouraging and upbeat aura oozing from her pores at all times. She was the type of person to literally give you the clothes off her back even if it meant being left cold* her heart was just that big. In the last year of her life, Pamela stepped outside of her comfort zone and became even more involved with her students at Greater Newark Charter School, accompanying them on their end of the year school trip and eighth grade social * two nights she came home and boasted about how much fun she had. Aside from teaching, her biggest joy came from being around her three girls * Monique, Anari and Kimora. Pamela leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Monique C. Tillman, surrogate son, Tahon Harris, surrogate daughters, Ta-Sha Holston and Rae Reaves, her granddaughters, Anari Aniya Tillman and Kimora Ann Tillman and surrogate grandson, Kaylon I.S. Harris, her devoted fianc*, James Gachette Jr., her loving mother, Annie Rossie Tillman, godmother, Geraldine Johnson, siblings, Craig Tillman and Angela Tillman, surrogate sister, Michele Eason-Simmons, nephew, Taka Lamar Tillman, surrogate nephew, Maurice Longville, goddaughter, Ebonyi Bey; along with her immediate family Pamela leaves behind a host of family members, friends, loving students and coworkers. In the wake of her death, Pamela doesn*t want us to mourn her she wants us to celebrate her life. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Pamela Tillman.
