Gayle Hunt Smith Obituary

Funeral services celebrating the life of Gayle Hunt Smith will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at The Pentecostals of Alexandria with Reverend Gentry Mangun and Reverend Anthony Mangun officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria. The family requests that visitation be observed at the church Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until time of service. Family and friends will gather at the church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and leave in procession to the cemetery at 10:40 a.m. Pallbearers will be Monty Smith, Jr. and wife, Ranassa, Miles Smith, Chance Smith, Cortland Smith, Kade Smith and Thomas Oldham. Mrs. Smith, 76, of Boyce, passed from this life on Friday, September 1, 2017 at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. Mrs. Smith was a member of The Pentecostals of Alexandria where she helped with the bus route, taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery. Gayle was a graduate of Louisville High School, Louisville, Mississippi and attended East Central Jr. College, Decatur, University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi State University, Starkville and received a Masters in special education from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches. She worked her way through college by working with the FBI and was a teacher for over 30 years retiring as Assistant Principal at Oak Hill Elementary School. Gayle will be missed by her family and all that knew her but her memory will be cherished forever. She was preceded in death by husband, Henry A. Smith; parents, J. Harvey and Sula Mae Doss Hunt and sister, Peggy Green. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Monty Smith and wife, Kim, Darty Smith and wife, Melissa and Shea Smith and wife, Doretta; grandchildren, Monty, Jr., Chance, Miles, Camille, Lindsey, Cortland, Madison, Kade, Kirstyn and Lauren; great grandson, Liam; sister-in-law, Evelyne Creson; long-time friends and caregivers, Claudette Oldham and Charlotte Oldham and a host of other family members and friends. The family has designated The POA Building Fund or Tupelo Childrens Mansion, in c/o The Pentecostals of Alexandria P.O. Box 8838 Alexandria, LA 71306, for memorial contributions.
