Obituary

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Erik Kliment.  Erik was a much-loved husband, father, son and brother.  His tragic passing in a vehicle accident has left an irreparable hole in our hearts forever.

Erik was born in Fernie, BC and lived in Elkford through high school graduation.  After graduating he moved to Alberta to work for a few years and then came back to Elkford with his family to work for the District of Elkford in the Public Works Department.  He had just received a promotion to Manager of Public Works the week before his passing.

Erik and Kim met when they were only sixteen years old and felt a deep connection quickly. They knew there was something so rare and special. They became best friends, companions and soulmates. Never giving up on each other. Erik and Kim lived a whole life in their short 22 years together. In that time, they welcomed two amazing boys. Erik lived for his family.  They were his world.

Erik was a happy-go-lucky guy and loved spending time in the bush hunting and fishing the rivers with his best friends Jordan Wildeman and Troy Kelly.  He instilled his love of the outdoors in his sons and was happiest when they could go out with him.  They loved snowboarding together and the family enjoyed camping at Koocanusa and floating around in the boat with their friends. Erik had a fierce fire in him and lived life to the fullest.

He loved playing music with Jordan and Will by the fire and in their band, "The Rock River Rebels".  He enjoyed anytime he could bang on his drums!

Erik was a great cook and liked creating in the kitchen and testing new things on the BBQ.  Jayden and Rylon quite often had fresh cheese buns or bread sticks in their lunches.  He was so happy the first time he made his grandma’s cream puffs and they turned out perfect only to have them all snatched off the kitchen counter by his mom & dad’s dog.  Bailey thought they were terrific!

Erik leaves to mourn the love of his life and high school sweetheart Kim Burton, his two sons (as he lovingly referred to as “my boys”) who were the greatest joy in his life and who he was so incredibly proud of Jayden and Rylon, his mom Debbie Kliment, brother Kalon Kliment, father-in-law Charlie Burton, brother-in-law Ryan (Andrea) Burton and his grandmother Hedwig Kliment plus his niece Emery Burton and nephew Wyatt Burton and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Erik was predeceased eight short months ago by his dad Peter Kliment, and eleven months ago by his mother-in-law Marlene Burton, grandfather and grandmother Bud & Mary Clarke and his grandfather Frank Kliment.

The universe took him away too soon and heaven has gained an incredible angel.  We know he’ll be watching over his family.
