Obituary
LOUDONVILLE - Our beloved mother Elizabeth “Betty” Theresa Moriarty passed away peacefully the evening of November 6, 2023 at Loudonville Assisted Living. Betty was born in Cohoes NY on July 16, 1924 to Frances and Julia Holohan. (She was divorced from A. Stephen Close with whom she had 5 children. Her beloved second husband John Moriarty preceded her in death in May of 2022. Staff and residents of Loudonville Assisted Living enjoyed Betty's lively personality, she was kind hearted and fun loving with a playful sense of humor. She was a lovely woman to the end of her days, everyone complimented her on her beautiful skin and she enjoyed giving skin care advice to others. Betty graduated from Saint Peter's Nursing School and was employed as a private duty nurse before marrying and becoming a housewife and mother in Milwaukee WI. She moved back to Albany NY and was employed at the US Postal Service as a nurse for the staff, working the 3-11 shift. There she met her second husband John Moriarty who was also employed at the Post Office. Betty loved children (especially her grandchildren), Broadway musicals, dance and people. She always exercised and belonged to a gym most of her adult life. We credit her long lived life to her commitment to exercise. Betty was one of nine (Mary Vandercar, Francis Holohan, John Holohan, Joseph Holohan, Margaret Holohan, Patricia O’Brien, Peter Holohan and David Holohan). Patricia O’Brien is her surviving sibling. She is survived by her children Steve Close, Cathy Fox (Richard), Laura Close (Igor), Brian Close and Susan Hyatt (Bruce and grandchildren Zach, Allison (Paul), Hannah (Barto), Sam (Kim) Stephanie Rachael.
