Romulus Cranford Story

<p>Rom was born on July 21, 1935 in Asheboro, NC to Sam and Vivian Story. He passed away</p><p>peacefully on October 22, 2023 at Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City, Nevada with his family</p><p>by his side.</p><p>He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1953 and attended Guilford College in Greensboro</p><p>NC. He proudly served in the US Army from 1956 – 1963. He joined the family business,</p><p>Standard TyTape Company, in Hendersonville, NC where he ultimately owned and ran the</p><p>business until 2000 when he retired.</p><p>He played an active role in bringing the YMCA to Hendersonville, NC. He was a devoted</p><p>member of the following: Hendersonville Country Club, Elks Club, Charter Member of the Four</p><p>Seasons Club, and Mills River Presbyterian Church; where he was a deacon and instrumental in</p><p>the fundraising and building of the Fellowship Hall.</p><p>Rom enjoyed flying and obtained his pilot’s license in 1970. He loved riding motorcycles</p><p>throughout his life and purchased his first Harley Davidson at the age of 70; which he rode</p><p>across the Western United States in 2008. He was a huge NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed the</p><p>Richard Petty driving experience at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2005. He was an avid</p><p>fisherman and loved camping with Nancy from tents to motor coaches. He was the proud</p><p>owner of Sourwood Farm in Horse Shoe, NC where he enjoyed his beautiful Arabian horses, his</p><p>plethora of dogs and traveling around the country to horse shows.</p><p>In 2012, Rom and Nancy relocated from Hendersonville, NC to Carson City, NV where they live</p><p>today.</p><p>He is preceded in death, by his parents; sister Pat Maloney; brothers Sam Jr. and Chisholm.</p><p>He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Kivett Story; his four-legged companions</p><p>Oakley and Tucker; his daughter Paige Story-Lloyd (Bob); grandson Jett Lloyd; daughter Rebecca</p><p>Shepherd (John); granddaughter Leslie Shepherd Williams (Trey); grandson Will Shepherd (Keli)</p><p>and great granddaughter Kiley Shepherd; loving nieces, nephews and extended family</p><p>members.</p><p>A Celebration of Life will be held in December in Nevada. In lieu of flowers, please make a</p><p>donation to the ASPCA – as Rom was passionate about this organization. </p>

Obituary

Rom was born on July 21, 1935 in Asheboro, NC to Sam and Vivian Story. He passed away

by his side.

He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1953 and attended Guilford College in Greensboro
