PATTEN. Madelyn E. (Putnam) Porter, 102, died peacefully at Madigan Estates Nursing Home on October 10, 2023. She was born March 14, 1921 in Marlborough, NH, the daughter of Almyra Dolly (Streeter) Putnam and John Putnam.

Madelyn attended Winchester, NH schools and graduated from Thayer Academy in 1941. She married Raymond Porter in 1942 and settled in Patten where they raised three children. Madelyn worked in a pea factory in Houlton during WW11 while Raymond was serving his country. She also worked for local farmers over the years both picking and planting potatoes. Later, after Raymond opened Porter’s Flying Service and eventually Porter’s Woodworking, she scheduled flights for fishermen and hunters and kept the books for both businesses for many years.

Madelyn had many interests over her long life. Besides helping care for the large gardens they planted, she picked, pickled, canned and shared much of the produce they grew. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed berry picking, hunting, and fishing when time allowed. She also found much pleasure reading, working on embroidery projects, playing cards, singing old favorites and making donuts and whoopie pies for family and friends. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Heidi Porter, Shawn Porter, Eric LaPensee, Emily Auert, Matthew Dale, and Jeffrey Dale and eight great grandchildren: Brennan Hubbard, Ella Hubbard, Gillian Porter, Brianna Keely, Evan Dale, Eli Auert, Felix Dale and Leo Dale. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and by longtime friends, Dave, Deb, and Matthew Cunha. Madelyn was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, in 2019 after 76 years of marriage, by infant son, Raymond Wesley Porter, and by sister, Florance Bushy, Dorothy Patnode, Byrdis Hodgman, Cherolyn Bryne, and Jennie Rigby.

The family would like to thank the staff at Madigan Estates Nursing Home for their loving care of Madelyn over the last two years.
