Annie L. Burles Mt. Healthy, Ohio Obituary

Annie L. Burles

Annie L. Smith was born June 11, 1932 in Locust Grove, Georgia. She was the seventh child out of eleven children born to Thomas Japeth and Sallie Mae Smith. She received her education through Butts County Public School System. At an early age she joined Fairfield A.M.E Church in Jackson, Ga. After graduating from Henderson High School, she attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta. Annie graduated from Morris Brown with a degree in nursing. Shortly after college she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. While working her first job at a soda concession stand she met Thomas Burles Sr., who she later went on to marry in 1953. Annie started her nursing career at Drake Hospital and then went on to work at Bethesda Base where she retired after 28 years of service. Outside of her career hat she had a definite passion for baking and sewing. For every suit that she had, Annie was sure to find a hat that matched. So it is safe to say she was a woman of many hats. She is survived by three sons Dexter Burles (Ida), Thomas Burles Jr. and Ayo Burles. Among Annie’s eleven siblings seven proceeded her in death Willie Alvin (Dub), Bennie, Leslie, Tommy Joe, Lillie, Aileen and Baby Girl. She leaves behind three sisters Willie Mae, Sarah and Lucy Gladys. She also leaves behind five grandchildren Folade, Amanda, Sadea, Adrian, Jelani, six great grand children and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Annie L. Burles compassionate and caring ways will truly be missed but will forever live on through loved ones. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 2835 Beekman Street, Cincinnati (45225). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
