Michael D Hook Obituary

With great sadness, we share that Michael Dean Hook, beloved Husband, Father, Brother, PopPop, and Friend, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Michael was born on January 23,1947, to Lester and Patricia Hook. He was the first of four children honored to carry on a legacy of amazing families filled with love! Raised in Ketchikan, Alaska he was well-known for his athletic abilities in basketball, baseball, and track. His deep love of the beautiful outdoors included hunting, fishing, beach combing, hiking, sunset viewing, and so much more!

After graduating from Ketchikan High School, Mike attended college at Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Washington where, in 1967, he met the love of his life, Linda Lou Smith. On June 14,1969, they started their Great Adventure of Life

together. Their honeymoon was a road trip back to Ketchikan for the summer where he began his banking career at National Bank of Alaska. Quickly came a move to Anchorage and then on to remote work in Glennallen. Before they knew it they had a lovable beagle-dachshund, Widgeon, a son, Jason Dean Hook, and a daughter, Secret Lea Hook (Aafedt). Their next move was to Eagle River in 1980, where they happily raised their family and planted deep roots. Over the years Mike worked at various financial institutions where he developed a fine name and reputation both professionally and personally. Mike's real joy came from being with his family. With each addition of nieces, nephews, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and of course, grandkids, his heart continued to expand with love and pride for his “clan”. Mike had a way of making each person around him feel special and important. He developed many lasting friendships throughout his life that brought him much happiness.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mike had strong convictions in Bible teachings and felt that his life had added meaning from the joy he found sharing it’s message of hope with others. He also considered the friends in his congregation as family, as did they. All who

were privileged to know Mike knew him to be, not just a sesquipedalian, (That’s for you Dad!) but a warm, loving, generous person. He was a shelter for anyone’s storm, a wealth of wisdom for any who asked, an eye roll before a laugh and a smile. He was a great man who will be very missed.

He is survived by his wife Linda; Children, and their spouses Jason and Carli Hook, Secret and Bryan Aafedt Grandchildren; Johnathan and Megg Spock, Isaac and Eliana Hook, Bryson, Brylee and Bryder Aafedt Siblings and spouses; Gary and Cathy Hook, Misti and Tim Ranger, Dan and Katy Hook. And many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the Eagle River Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 19126 Darby Rd. Eagle River, Alaska ZOOM ID: 419 888 1200 Password: Mike1986
