<p>Nancy J. Pohlman&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Of New Lenox passed away September 23, 2023 after a brief illness. She passed peacefully at Lightways Hospice in Joliet with her family at her side.</p><p><br></p><p>Nancy was born to William and Mary Louise (Arling) Gehrke on Nov. 7, 1934 in Joliet, IL. She lived her entire life in the Joliet/New Lenox area. A graduate of Joliet Central High School, Nancy worked as a telephone operator and in the office at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. before starting a family with her husband, Douglas W. Pohlman, whom she married Nov. 1, 1958. She later worked as a pet sitter for</p><p>Paws &amp; Tails. Nancy was a City of Joliet Crossing Guard for more than 30 years, assigned to Wesmere School, where she loved the students, family and staff. She enjoyed when her students would return with their children to visit her on the corner. She was awarded the C.A.P.E. Stars of District 202 PTO Lifetime Award for Wesmere School in 2004.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her daughters Nancy A. Pohlman and Susan (Larry) Hug . Her beloved grandchildren Lisa and Julie Pohlman-Zordan, Douglas and Lauren Hug, along with grand puppies and grand kittens. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and son-in-law Alan Zordan. The youngest of seven children, she is also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses Robert (Martella) Gehrke, William Gehrke, Beverly (Robert) Johnston, Gail (Leroy) Papesh, Betty (Gordon) Seil and Marilyn (William) Andree. Her parents-in-law Irving J. “Dewey” and Signa (Pierson) Pohlman.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Saturday, October 7th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nancy was a great lover of animals and children. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to PAWS of Chicago or St. Jude Children Research Hospital.</p><p><br></p>
